Values are at the core of what we do. They are the reasons we complete work without reward, the guidelines that help us make decisions and the ideals that shape us into the people we are today.

Values are usually associated with our workplace. I’ve worked for companies where they have them in their manual, I’ve worked for companies that didn’t have any values and I’ve worked for companies that have lived with each individual. Which company did I enjoy the most, had the most hunger, displayed the most organisational citizenship? You guessed it, the company that had the most lived values.

Values don’t just sit on a piece of paper and they don’t stay static. They are fluid. The values I have today, are not the values that will be with me in 5, 10 or 50 years down the track. As my environment changes, so too will my values.

30 years on this earth and this is the first time I have sat myself down to think about what I want to live by. Sure, there have been many self help books, podcasts and YouTube videos that have built up to this but today is the first time I have given myself values to live by.

My Values

Self Awareness – Know who you are, know who you’re not

Trust & Relationships – Listen first, speak last

Growth – Desire for mastery, apply yourself to achieve it

Leadership – It’s not who you are, it’s what you do
