Articulating my thoughts has always been a challenge for me ever since I was young. “Cool story”, “Is that the end” and “Spit it out” are all common phrases said to me. In my head, I sound like Martin Luther King delivering “I Have a Dream”, but when I attempt to articulate my thoughts, it lacks structure, descriptive language and does not make me sound confident with what I am saying.
My articulation has improved over the years but I still occasionally hear those phrases. Here’s a few reasons why I have started to write.
It allows for analysis of my thoughts
By taking up this project I’ll be able to analyse my thoughts, cement ideas and be confident with my delivery.
I’m writing for me
Selfishly, I’m not doing this for anyone else. This writing is for me first and foremost BUT I hope for anyone that stumbles across it that it resonates with them, assists them and they can benefit from it.
Knowing that my writing isn’t going to be perfect
My objective is to improve the clarity and sophistication of my writing. If I look back and read my writing in a year’s time and say, “WOW! I wasn’t good at writing, what was I thinking?” – I have succeeded.
Build my credibility
For good or bad reasons, my writing will build my credibility. Whether it is to show future employers, start my on business or just look at it for a laugh, it exposes my thoughts to the world and opens myself up for criticism and feedback. Both will increase my self awareness and my personal growth.
I need to keep myself accountable. I will commit to writing 2 posts a week and in one year’s time, I hope to say “WOW! I wasn’t good at writing, what was I thinking?”.
If you’ve read this, I’d love to hear your feedback.
